I was well aware of it when trading tapes in the mid 70s, which is a shock to be honest...think of how much harder it was to get the word out and around back then when we used stone tablets (Monte keeps "deleting" that bit, cause it makes him look like he couldn't have been a techno whiz kid in 73).

All I know is I heard it more than once, and in more than one format, but LiA has probably documented it somewhere...

Sure, it's fine for it to be revised after his death, but I really do believe that until Bobby changed his mind, that IF there WAS a biz model, it really was to embrace the simple notion that "if we share all this LIVE crap, they WILL buy more"

And frankly, I think that time and again we've all proved that model has worked...I have a nephew practicing in copyright law on this exact topic, you and BD will be pleased to know, and he maintains there are lots of studies supporting the basic notion that it can work to your advantage to take this approach (crudely, lots of free stuff to generate interest, as long as they buy the rest).
